My name is Jack Reynolds and I've worked at The Charter School East Dulwich in South London since 2020. I have experience as an English Teacher, Head of Year, Head of English, and Literacy Lead. I'm particularly interested in how secondary schools can tackle literacy challenges through whole-school policies on oracy, technology, assessment, disciplinary literacy, phonics intervention, and vocabulary instruction.
I’m currently managing the design and implementation of the literacy policy at The Charter School East Dulwich. Our approach has been to assess all students and provide bespoke intervention based on reading needs (phonics, fluency, comprehension etc.) Alongside this, we’ve focused on building consistency into literacy instruction across the school, had a big focus on reading culture, and strengthened parental links with the weakest readers.
Previously, I have led research on explicit vocabulary instruction for lower-attaining KS4 students, the effectiveness of instructional coaching as CPD, and whole-school revision policy. I have also run working groups on cognitive science in KS4 and literacy across the curriculum.
